Down at the Seaport

Well, we're still on a tourist tear. Yesterday, we just loafed on the beach but today we drove downtown to Seaport Village, a little shop and restaurant area on the harbor. It also has the bonus of being right next to the USS Midway a floating naval museum made out of a decommissioned aircraft carrier. It was another beautiful SoCal day so it was pretty pleasant to stroll along the waterfront.

Call Muffy and Buffy and see if the yacht is ready.

They got some amazing cacti here.

Shops and restaurants and fountains.

Gertrude and Heathcliff. If you get that reference, you're at least as
old as I am and you should go to bed now.

We ate at this cafe perched over the water. Looked like part of the
set from the Popeye movie.

Where there's a harbor, there's flotsam and jetsam.

The waterfront here is called Tuna Harbor. In it's heyday, San Diego
brought in 85% of the tuna in the US. I only know that because I
heard it from a tour-guide on a Segway.

The water was a cool color today.

What's for lunch?

I had the Slider Triology, a rather odd set of mini-burgers: one beef, one
fish, one chicken plus French fries. I think that about covers the food groups.
Hey, I ate my parsley sprig. Astral Wendy went with a veggie omelet.

What time do the lobsters arrive?

Sea Dragon.

Check out the size of this statue. Look at little Astral Wendy. Yeah, I looked up.
I had to.

I never never knew Bob Hope was so tall.

On the flight deck, everyone is color-coded by task.

Conning tower of the USS Midway.

To me, this looks exactly like the gremlin from Bugs Bunny cartoons.

I don't know what's going on here but Astral Wendy has captured herself.

Yep, where I belong.

Down in the engine room.

I had no idea the Navy would use this color scheme. Don't ask.

This carousel started life in Brooklyn NY, went to Portland
OR, and finally wound up here.

I didn't even notice this but guess who did?

Everything's in bloom. If we time our return to NJ right, we
might just catch some east coast spring but I doubt it will
rival San Diego.

  5. Hey there, my hubbie and I are probably quite close to your age. Can't do what you're doing yet, but we're sure looking forward to it. In the meantime, I'll follow your adventures. Thanks for posting! I'm your newest follower.

  6. @Catherine: Thanks for joining Catherine. We're having a blast although it does get a little weary on the road. We're thinking of switching to part-time but who knows? We'll be nomading for a while yet and then maybe Europe.
